Death Of Major Rawlings
Fortress Monrbe, July 19. At midnigbt a party; consistir.g of Captain Holliday, Capíain Edvvard W. Jenkias, Lieutenant Johnson and a private; "also T. Edward Rawlings, Major of the Kentuckv Light Cavalry, and 11. W. ShurtleiF, of the New York llustrated News, left Hampton without permission on a scoat. Rawlings was instnntly killed by a bullet through his head Johnston and Sliurtlefi vvera also sean to fall, and they raust have been carried off as prisoners. The others escaped. Three companies went out and brought in the body o! Rawünga, Miijor Rawlings arrived here yesterday morning, and was formrly connectod w'th an illmtrated paper in New York.
