Sotne of the Southern wing do DötTfeesitale to otter tlieir dislike of the 'lick back' they received last week on the Repeal of the Gag Rule. One of theni [we think Pickens of S. C] thus writes to the Richmond Enquirer: "The vote was 6trictly a Northern and Southern vote; and I confess I fee! deeply mortified and concemed. Tt will tend to inflame our Southern friends, and to precure, I fear, much mischief. It s thought by somp that the movement covcred a bidden purpose to strike down a certain Southern Statesman, [Mr. Calhoun, of course,] by ekher throwing him in direct opposition to his State, and thus compel lum to retire to private life, or otherwise doom him to a fixed minority in the whole country. Whether this be the object ornotrl Ehall I not stop to inqnire. T look upon it vrith fearfui forebodings, ae indiCating a wont of eincerity and good faitb, os well as good feeWng, on the pari of our North 'ern fiiende. The result has producedfjund sensation here." -Lib. Press. {Lƒ S. M. Booth writes from Albany to the Christian Freeraan: ■ A letter was read by J. C . Jackson, from MisDelia A.
