Hall's Hii.l, Va., ) Nov. 17, 1861. S To day, Sunday, and for the last tliree days, it bas been cold and blustering as - on'e would wish to see, especially if b is i obliged to livo in tents or drill five or six hours a day, or turn out for an inspeotion ] of anus and stand stül for two liours as we did this niorning. For some rcasou or otler We feel tlie cold more hero tban we did In Michigan. On Thursday we rccoived 40 new recruits trom Detroit.- They ay thatwhcn tbeyleft home there had not been any such cold weather as W are haring liere. froze ucre 011 Wednesday night A picket guard was sent out of this regiment on Tbursday, and returned on Saturday. Thoy did not see or hear auything of the eneniy. It is evident, from the quiot that extends along our lines, as well as from the advar.ee made bj the scouting party under Major V iii.cn, wliieh I wrote you about, that the enemy are folling back. They are probabiy sending troops off South. It is rumored through this camp that this división, Geu. Porter's, is to be sent down South. Wbelher it is so or not I cm not say. But I should judge from ap pearances that we wcre about to inake a move somewhere, and I hope so,as I should like to take a trip South. Testerday they commenced to pay off this regiment, and a happier looking set oí boys I never saw. ïhey were paid in Treasury notes. ïiiere is one more thiiig that we would iike to havo Government uu fof us, tliat is hurry up some winter clothing, I belicve we are to have a froek coat for winter wcar, whieh will be a great improvemeut on the blouse we uow have, and whieh is uo protcetiou agaiDSt the cold winds we have liare.
