George Coleman and myself were churas, and as a natural consequcnce roomcd togethcr. George posscssed a spirit for fun, and when an opportunity offered whereby hc could outwit the faculty or the ever wateliful tutors, hc was sure to improve it. One c"ld and rainy evening toward the latter part of December, fieorge and mysclf' were suugly ensconced in our little room on the third floor of the college building. Both of us had been for the past two hours deeply engaged in study. Now, our studies being ful'y learned, we threw asido our books and sat gnzitig vacantly iuto the fire. Presenfly George nrose, and after pacing up and down the room severa! times exelaiined : 'I have it ! Now for eome furj.' He theieupon seated himself in front ef me, as tfaough some matter of great importaiice whs to be discussed. 'Lew,' said he, 'wlmt do you ay to having some roast turkey?' I replied that it would be very acceptable, and wishcd to be informed how wo were to got the article in question. ' hy, easy enough,' replied he : 'all you have to do is to follow my directions and the turkey will be forthcoming.' He then bade me rem ai d until he returned. Putting on lii hat and coat he left the room. líe soon returned, liowever, and from beneath his overcoat produced a fino, plump turkey, all dressed e;;dy for cooking, procurad by some myserions ?neaus Hc set about the task of jeing chieí C9ok, tying a thin wire to the eek of the fowi, and then suspending it, ike Mohammed 's coffiu. bet ween heaven nd earth, from the mantle shelf, thereby mitating the old eustom of cooking. All things had progressed very well, go far, and the savory sruell, arising from the now ncarly cooked turkey, sorved to increase our appetites, and our moatlis watered at the sight. It was now done nd reaay to do sérica, wiieu wu ueuiu a oud knock at the door. George hastlly caught up our b!rd, üd raising the window, let t down genty by tlic wirc ; tben staking the wire ast, he soft'y closed thc window, and reumed bis studies, while I waited on the loor, which I oponed; and there before no stood one of our tutors. He ga id he called to see if our room neoded any rejairing ; and we, of courge, invited him ,o entcr, which he did. lie said he had a'ways taken a deep nterest ie the personal vrellaro ol the students, and he thought perhaps our closet wanted repaiiing- thercupon looking into it. He next looked under the bed, to see if we needed any carpet there; also in the bed, to see if any more covering was esscntial to our comfort. Hut od finding all right, he soutrd himself m a chair, and wanted to know it the eulin ary dipartment had been removed to the upper part of the building, ns he smelt the fumes of cooking very plainly. Wc made what excuse we could, and after remaining in all about an hour and a half, he took bis leave Georgo imtnediately raised the window and hauled up the wire on which our eveuing meal had boen suspended. But judge of our chagrín and attonisliment, when we beheld, instead of the turkey. only the bones fastcned to the wire, and a paper aecompanying them, on which was written : 'That was mighty good ! Send us anothcr.' The joke of it was, wo had hung it against the window of the room bplow ours; and the innatos, seeing it dangling down, had appropriated it to their owu use. Long at'ter that we were known as the cooks. Ey It ia a great blunder in the pureuit of haj.piness, notto know when we have got it; that is, not to be con tent wilh a reasonable and possible meaenre vi it. fü-T The photograph was put to a novel use lately. A London house, wishing to purchase a particular quantity of raw silk - samples of which had been reCHveJ - gent to their correspondent iu Japan a photograph of the original package received, showing the Btyle of the pkein or hauk, and the pecuüarities of its twisted fire. The Japanese merchants, Fceing tho faithful representation of the original, at once deelared what the silk was, and its placo of growth and pianufaetnre,
