-On Monday last. a fatal aflíray took place in the first ward, by wbiob a man by the name of Whaley lost hm liíe. It appears that Whaley's vvife for some cause had taken up her abode in the house of Mr. Chester Arnold, and refused to return. Whaley went to the house to induce her to return, and not being admitted commenced to beat down the door with an axe. He was rosisted by Arnold, and in the melee so badly injured as to die in the cour8e of the day. Wounde upon his head indícate that the axe or some other instrument was used in boating him. Arnold claims to have auted only in self-defence. What the testimony will be wo are not informed ; but ho will, in all probability for trial.
