Vo givo place in to-day s issue to the proceedinga of the Democratie' State Convention whieh was held at Detroit on Wednesday, the 5th inst., embodying with the same the eloquent and patriotic speech tnado beforo tho convention by F. J. Littlejohn. The proceedings, resolutions, and bpeech rsferred to, will be read by all who wish to know the position occupiod by the democratie party oí Michigan, and wil] be read, too, withsatisfaotion. Tho conventioD was largely attendod, and numbered arnong ita members many of the oldest, most prominent, and most reliablo demócrata of tho State; demócrata who have stood firm through all changes, and havo had faith n domocracy in adversity as well as prosperity. ïhe convention planted the party in this State upon Union ground, and dcclarcd in favor of sustaining tho Government in all nocessary and Constitutional measures for putting down the ïeoellión, and against anij setllement involcing a dissolulion of tht Union. The Union must bk presekted is tho motto of th!jfcdemocratic party of Michigan, lot sucïï preservation bo as distasteful as it may to both emancipation and secessiou dissolutionists. - "We notico that the republican journals of the State are most of them indulging in denunciation of the convention and its aotion ; and 00 the other hand that thoe republiean citizens who hcnestly desire a restoration of the Union commend and concur in its patriotic utterances.
