Mr. Carlisle, ono of the representatives in the United States Senate, froin that portion of Virginia which recently formed a Provisional Goverameut, by cuttiug loóse frota the rest of the State, has modestly taken it upou himself to charge Mr. Sumner with disloyalty, and even treason, for proposing territorial governments for the rebel States ! Eepresenting hiraself, a " State " which only exists by the overthrow of the legitímate goverament of Virginia, and that only as an act of grace from Mr. Sumner and those who act witli him, this impudent charge should have been left for some ona whose right to a seat in the Senato rcsts on a firiner basis than Lis. - Det. AAvertiser. " Confession is good for the !;oul," but then we hardly expected so full a confession. " íhe legitímate govornment of Virginia has been overthrown," and Messrs Carlisle and Willey hold their seats in the Senate not as a rijht, but by the "grace of Mr. Sumner and those who act with him," and who ihoped to use them as cat-paws to advance their schomes of emancipation and ab'olition of the Southern States as well as Southern institutions. We had suspeoted as much bcfore, but did not suspect o frank an avowal of it, Bufc Messrs. Carlisle and Willev not proving the suppliant tools they were taken for, they ar e bade be silent, and an edict is issued prohibiting the House admitting members who have the same right to seats as the "New Virginia" Senators. If the Advertiser saya truly, this country is not governed under tbo constitutioa but by tho "grace" of Charles Sumner and bis associates. What say they the people to such a summary procesa of wiping out all constitutional guaranteea ? On Saturday laat ttie 14th Regiment received an elegant fi:ig from the ladies of Ypsilanti. Tho presentation was made by Prof. J. M. B. Sill in a timely and eloquent speech, which was appropriately responded to by Col. Sinclair. The ceremonies were witnessed by a large concourse of people whc were highly gratified at the appearance of the Regiment. The 14th will.giveagood account of itself if tho rebellion is not squelched before it is fortúnate unough to take the field. The same day a fine horse and t.rap pings were presented to Major Quackenbusii by the officers and men of the companies raiscd for the regiment by faim. L3" A skirmish occurred on Friday last, near Winchester, Va., between Capt. Colo's, Co. F, Maryland Cavalry, and a superior force of rebel cavalry, in which the federáis had thrcc woundcd and the rebels six killed and five wounded. Adjutant Wilkins, of Gen. Williams' staff, had his horse hot under hhn. Adjutant "Wilkins is a son of Judge Wilkins, of Detroit. JL5L" The telegraphic cable has beeu sncccssfully laid across the Bay frora Fortress Monroe, and couneoted with tho Delaware linea, so that Fortress Monroe is now out of tho woods, and the Government is in instantaneous connection with that important post. L3L" The Sixth Michigan Infantry, Col. Cortenius, formerly stationed at Baltiraore, bas been transferred to the división oí General Butler, and has probably reached Ship Island before this. Waehtenaw has one company, the " Saline Sharp Shooters," in this regiment. jL2jL" On Monday evening Prof. A. D. White lectured before the Studente' Lecture Association, in the M. E. Church. His subject was " Russian Civilization," and his lecturo is commended in high terms.
