From the tttehmuad Whig, June 14. The brill'ant operatiuns of G-eneral Jackson in the Valley nf the Shenandoah, crippling and dispers'mg tha forees of Milroy and Schunek and Mcüowell, - of Bunks at Front Royal and Winchester, - of Fremont at Gross Keys, and Shields at Port Republii-, have had a wide-reaching and important bearing on tho war. These teveral corps were to have been consolidated and brought across iho Blue llidge en. route for Richmond. When they reaohed the Rappahannoek, McDowell, wkd his Fredericksburg anny, was to fall iuto line, and tho unitod column i were to be precipitated on the devoted city froin the north. At the sume time, it is probable 13urnside was expected to be on hand from tha south, advancing up the aouth side of the James from the direcüon of Suffulk,iu conneotion with tha Monitor and its oonso: ts in the river. Tho capital buing thns assailed from tha north and soiuh, JfoClellan was to make the grand attack from the east, in front. The plan was a gignntio one, and, in all probability, wouw have succeüded bat for the nnii'.mly movements oí Jackson, complettly paralyzing the valley force, and compelling Mcüowell to detach a large portion of his army to save Bauks and Company from demolitation and their capital írom capture. Thua left without co-oporation and succor, McClellan is afraid to strike. Wit'hin sound almost of tho church bells of Richinond, within sight almost of the long-coveted treasure, a sudden disappointinent strikes hiin, a oold tremor seizes him, and he skulks and hides bimself nke a craven in tho dismal marshes of the Ohiokahominy- ono day sending to Washington a braggart and mendatious bulletin of vhat his invincible army bas done and s about to do, and the noxt balling with all his might tor rein forcements. For tho present, at leust, lie is concerned by rhe bold dash of Jackson - the next move should be a checkmate. i i - mÊ i - ■ m
