The Battle Near Cumberland Gap

Ferry, División Quartermaster, just amved from Cumberland Gap uu the 12ih, at uoon, reporta tliat Decourier's brig'ule was aüackcd by Stovensim's rebel división on the 9tli at Tazewell, that Cochran's Fourtecnth Kentucky whipped i'our rebel regiments. Cocliran held his fire until thcy were within 150 yards and checked their adTauce. The federal loss was Üiree killed and fifteen wouuded. Fifty-seven of tho Sixth Ohio were taken prisoners. We took a rebel Lieutenant Colonol, wliom we exchanged for the fifty-seven pris oners. The rebel ofikers admitted a loss of 250 killud and wounded. We took 213 vgon loads of forage and 70 horses. - We lost the knapsacks of two regiments. Thero hap beeu no fight at Big Creck Gap as reported, nor any other enffagement in the vioinity of the Gap or Tuzowell than tbc foregoing. All reports of othcr engageraents and of the cutting to picces of Gen. Cartcr's and Col. Boyd's forcea by the rebels are ntti:rly f al se. Gen. Morgan issued a special order thankin DuUourcy and Cuchran for their gallantry. Knoxville papers give a list of 109 rebels killed ut Tazewell. The Louisville and Nashville Railroad has been reeen tly bo damaged by the rebels in the vicinity of Galliitin, blowing p a tunnel and destroyioe biidges, that two c' linxe weeks will be required to repair it.
