Tlio promise seems to bo at preasent, tliat the Fonrteeutb Annual State Pair will exceed nny exhibition of the kind that has been held here. At ihe antiua] meeting of thu Executive Committo last winter, the Pre.-ident u his addrcss strongly recomniended tbat efforts shouhl bo made to encourage mare fully than had been tho custom hitherto, a develnpment of the mechanica] ctepartmont of tiie exhibition, whilst at tlio same time, no proponderance of any división should detruct from tho interest feit in all the other departmenta. During the spring andsummer, aeveral meetings of tlio President with the business eommittee have beon held for the purpose of maturirg tuo details and per fecting tho arrariguaaots, and also to complete the list of viowing eouimittues. This work was completed the last week in June, and tho premium list w:is fin ishod and given to the printer. It is now ready for delivery on application, and :i large number havo aiready been mailed. Amongst the changea and additions from last yoar's list we note that a speoifio premium is offered in the class of shüep, for the best bred French and Merino bucka, which can show an unalloyod descent from pure iinported stook. This class has been deemed worthy of a special eommittee; thero are also premiums and a eommittee for the best fleeces of wool that may be exhibited. The wool and sheep interest we think has been attended to in the arrangement of the premiums very fully and fairly, and we hope to see a very large display in this class. The cattlo breeders are looking forward to having fuily as large a turn-out as thoy had last soason. During the winter we havu had an opportuuily of seeing some of' the stook that is to bu showr., aud whieh has been bred in our own State, and we teel ussured that the coinpetition will be reiuarkable for the interest that will be elioited. In horses, there proinises to be a very great and even more than iwu;il coinpetitiou. The demanda of the army have taken out of thiu State a large number of horses, and, in fact, have cleuncd the field.s of a lot of stuuk that it was ful! timo hould tro somewhere, and leave room for a better and more iraproved stoek. If wo may credit all we hear, we should nol be surprised if an exhibition of this interest would be pot up that would prove eqnal if not superior ia its features to the great horso show so extensively noticed as to take place at Chicago. To the machinery aad implement department, huwever, it is determinad this year to givc a popular interest. Aleasures have been taken to provide for the holding of a plowing match and iriul oL plowi, under thu charge of a special eomraittee detallad for the purpose, and tbere will also be a general trial in the most practical tnatinor of all impleineuts and machines that inay be presented for exhibition or coinpetition. At the season for holding the Fair thia trial cannot of í sourse inciude mowers and harvesting machines, but all such implements as plows, harrows, cultivators, seed-drills and sorifiers it is intended to opérate so as to show their advautage? and melhods of working. Again, it is the design of the Society to próvida stcady fixtures and running gear so that those who delire to exhibit their milis, cuttins machines, aud other inveutions requiring power to opérate, shall be able to display l h o 111 in complete running order, and thns afi'ord to the visitors as well as to the exhibilors unusual advantages. We hopa to see ïmprovemouts inaugurated in this department in the most succesíful man uer, aud we are suro that frora the character and disposition of the commit ,ees to whotn the charge of carrving out this feature has been given, that no ex ertion will be laoking on their part to ender the whole affair a grand feucecss - wea ther perm itting It is not at preasant known who will deliver the annnal address. To the Pres dent, J. B. Crippen,Esq., of Coldwater, was committed by special resolution, the duty of correspoudiug with and inviting such citizen as he might deern proper. - We have no hesitation in saying that, if t be possible, the orator will be oue whom the people of Michigan will glady come froni every section to seo and ïear. The general prograrame for the Fair as arrangi.'d at present is published in the iremium list. As the details are perfected, we hope to be able to publish them "rom time to time, so that our readers will be fully iuformed with regard to all the preparations for the Fourteenth Annual State Fair.
