The Boston Pilot, of this week, bas an article on Drafting, from which we qnote as follows : The citizens of a country owe it their lives, in the saine mannor that tho country owcs thuin oivil and military proteotion. The contraet is eminently fair and essentially requisita for the oxistenoe of the State. Tkercfore, when a nation is in danger, its peoplo should not hesitatc to be its S'ildiers. Both honor and justice domand of thoin to obey the cali. - Not volunteering at its summons is a mark cf degenerate spirit. To liold back so as to ronder drafting a noccssity is below a great minded population. At all events, the rebellion must be put down, and thereforo thore must be soldiers ! The difficulty is at our teeth, and we must meet it. And let it be the eonsolation of the Irieh, those poor, brave catholic peoplo who do most of the soldiering, that this country belongs to them more thau to any other peoplo witliin its limits, for in their blood is a vital permanenca that nothing can degenerate. They, abovo all other people in the war, fight for their posterity. This they should rcmember. And if they are citizens they cannot by honor and by morĂ¡is, refuse the cali of the Govern ment, for by citizenship they had made to it a free and solemn oath.
