■The Army Register for September 18G2 M out. üur regular nrmy consiats now of nenrly 40,000 men. Thero were until 18ül ten regiments of infantry, one of motinted riflemen, two of dragnone, two of cavalry and four of artilleiy; inaking, all told, sometbing like 20,000. In May, 1861, claven new regimenté were oiciered to be raired - nine wore lo be of infantry, one cavalry, and one artillery. The iiifaniry regiments were lo consist of three battalions of 800 men eftch- 2,400 in all; the cavalry and artillery 1,J68 and j,S59 respect ivelv. Wero they all full we should have 43,000 regulars, but about 3 000 are wantnd to complete tlie Third Battalions of the nino now regimentï, L,-L" Oíd fools are more foolish than young ones; tbey havo had inucli loager pr3t:üe.
