A Northern mother wis searching in a hospital, not far from Washington, for a soldier son. rihe liad not heard from him for several weeks. She knew he had boen taKen prisoner and exelianged, but from the period of that exchange slie had learned nothing about him. She knevv be. was not with lus regiment. She did not knnw that he was living. She found him wounded, but not dangerously. He thoughtshe did not know of his exchango, and that sho would suffer less, supposing him to be in captivity than knowing him to be wounded, and accordingly had uot written to her. She feared almost to meet him, lest her strength should faU her, and far more, she had feared to learn ihat he was among the slain. Sho found him very destitute. His blanket and his knapsack had been lost, and he had no change of clothes. She suppliod all these wants, and ministered not only to her son, but to others in the hospita!. One poor fellow asked her for a cup of tea, but added, " I suppose you will not get it for me." " Wliy uot? " " I do not belong to the Union army." " That will not prevent my attendiug to your wants, I could not treat you as many of our own soldiers have been treated when they have fallen into the bands of .the rebels " The tea was procured, snd thesuffering rebel gratefully drank it. One man who seemed near death attracted her attention. " Can I do anything for you ? " she nquired. " I waDt to write to my wife. I aiu not strong enough to do it. Can you write for me ? " ThankfuIIy she took the pen and wrote is he dictated. " Teil my wife I am not alone, Jesús !s with me." This was his dying messago.
