Raught made appiieation to tho City Jude for his sju'b discharge froin a New York regiment, belonging to General Banks' experiition, which was theii on board the Northern Light, anti alxiit. K'aving the city. It was alleged that youug liiiugliè had eugnged biinself as a servan t to a Captain, and that the jatter had, agaiugt h wil], placed hiiu intheranks; also, that he ws unable to ■ perform military duty by reusou of hernia. A wnt of htleat corpus was ssued and survcd ou General Bank, who, at tlio hour D&rned for hearing, nppcared by OOunsfel, and made return "tii.it the Northern Lighf had sailed, and was near tliu Nurrows it the time of reoefving the writ, and it was imposBible, thercfoce, to reaoli hor in tiire to obi'y the writ ; but that he ((Jon. Judgo McCunn said the return was eotiroly satisfactory, aud refleeted the highoet honor on General Banks. He was happy to know that our eourts every day were becoming more respected by the military authoritics, wiioni it seemed had suddenly beeornii aware that the civil lawB should bo enforced and the rights of all through thein protected. ri'he soldier was found on board the Northern Ligbt by one of Gen. Banks' Aids and sent bi-ftn-o Judge McCuuü, and, upon the proofs alleged in tho petitioD, he was diseharged.
