To-ilay the sky is davk with clouds, the air With mist s heavy, and the fttful breeze Sweeps with a dirge among the spectra] trees ; There is a gloom of sadness everywhere. Patches of recent snow lie on the hills ; The streets are full of turbid rivulets, That niurmur to the glitter soft regrets, And ripple on to joiu with larger rills. We looked, we louged, we famished for the spring, It came, but staid not ; so we sit and sigh And cali its early proraise mockery, Cheating our hearts with selflsh niurmaring. Cease. foolisli heart I Tliese constant rains and snows Nourisli the young grass and spvinging flowers, And swell the brown i.iuds on the trees ; these hours Of sadness and of storm are friends - not foes.
