Special Dispatch to tlie Adv. and Tribune. Cülinubia, ïcun., May, 11. The I2th Kentueky Oavalry and the 20th Michigan Infaotry ongaged tho rebels Uuder Morgan and Scott yestcrday (Sunday) on the Motitoilo road, four miles from the Cuinberland. The skirmishing commenced on Friday nigbt when Co. II, of tho 20tli Mieh., uiinder Capt. Wiltsie, went out on a seout, meeting tho rebels. Tho smal) company of men attaeked them fieroely, taking 11 prisouers and 4 horses. On Saturday evening the others crossed the river, and after marohing four milos, carne upan a strong force of tho enemy. At 3 o'cloek on Sunday, tho 24th diana battery opcncd one gun upon a house .in wliich the rebels had taken shelter, whicli eaused the eneuiy to reply briskly to our firo. The 20th, coramanded by Lieut. Col. Smitb, attaoked the rebels with desperate energy and charging upon them,'drove them in wild confusión to (heir reserves, when theii' superior nurabers being discovoreel our men retired in good order. The fighting ivas of tlu severest charaoter. Morgan discovering tliat lio greatly outnumbered us, sent in a deniaud for our surrender, but as Michigan men have no sueli word in their vocabulary, it was instantly refused. The enemy's loss was very severe ; ours is given below. Col. Sraith and Major Cutcheon threw aside their swords and scizing a inusket, went with the men into the thicuest of the fight.
