The correspondent of tho New York ITcrald gives the followiug as oue of the inoidents : Captain Hall, Fourth Michigan Regiment, had a narrow escape of going int o rebeldom, or wliat many wouid deern no worse, going to bis final account Being ordered to find the positiou of the enemy, he deployed his companv as flkirmislii.'rs. first tiiking the precuutioo. to doiïhis uniform coat and cap and put on a private's coat and a feit hat of unprepossessing antiquity He took the lead of his company and soon cama in view of a rebel officer witli two'or three men at his right wlioso moveraenis he watched wiih siispicious curiousness. Suddeiily three rifles, pointed by three men frotn behind three trees, were aimed at hjm. "Surrender ! vou damined Yankee I" called out the three men siuiuhaueous "Surrender be d - d," responded Captain Hall, jumping behind a tree and presenting irs peiee at mie of the trio. - He called to his men to rally, vrhich they did dircctly, and an exebange of shots ensued, when the three men flod. Two of Captain Hali's men were killed. - Ooe of them, Henry Newton, had never been in a fight before, having been sick ever since the regiment left Fortress Monroe. Being stil! n delicate health, Captain Hall askéd him to stay behind and guard some kntrpeacks ; but he insisted on going with him. His bravery and entreaty cosí him his life.
