" Let me relate one incident that oecur red While I was on the Peninsula during the bloody campaign of last summer. - During the battle of Williainsburg, in the edge of the forest skirting the battle field, a soldier was struck by a bit of a shell whioh severed the bronchial ar tnry. Faint from the profuse hemorrhage, he feil just as the surgeon was riding rapidly pass toward the front to get orders for establishing a hospital at a certain point. The poor fellow had just strength to raise bis bleeding arm and say, " Doctor please." The doctor dismounted, rapidly ligated the vessel, applied a compresa and bandige, and administered a cordial. As he turned to go away the man isked, " Doctor what is your name ? " " No matter," said the surgecn. " But, Doctor," said the wounded man, 'I want to teil my wife and children vlio saved me ! "
