Anecdote Of General Jackson
Mr. Thomas of Maryland, told the following mecdote of General Jackson, in a speech in the House of llepresenta tivcs, one day : During the Presidential term, an application was ma'e (or tlie remnval of a Postmaster in one of the Northern States, and it was urged on the President, with a gveat deal of earnestness, first by let ter, and then a ppecial committee carne and remonstrated with great bitterness against the coutinuance in office of this violent politieal opponent of the President, ïo cap the climax, of the Postmaster's offenses, and to insure his removal, they told the President that the obnoxious officer had called Gen. Jack son a " d d gray headed old ." ' Did Ike f " said the General. " He did." " If I am not mistaken," said the General, " that man stormed Stony Point uuder Wayne, and any man who did that bas my permission to be a postmaster, and to curse me the balance of his life?"
