The Board pronounced it absolutoly necessary, in view of our fjst increasing populatioo, that further ichoolaccoramodationsbeprovided, whieh tould be done either by building more Ward School Houses, or cutting up Union School Hall - a hall kept more for ornament than use. An appropriation of $1,500 waa recommended to oonvert the hall into school rooms, and that this imouut - with the other appropriations reoomtnended - be raised by tax the prwent year. The meeting considered the recommendatioos at length, and voted the following appropriations for the present hooi year 1863-4. TO BE RAISED BY TAX ! To pay Teachers, $3275 00 '.' The Board reported the ttendance pon the School during the last year as 1713, and that there had been an increased regularity and punctuality of attendance gratifying to the Board. The number of persons iu the district betweeo the ages of 5 and 20, as per late census, was reported at 2055, an increase of 124 over the census of last jsar. Whilo Pcholars increase at this rte our people need not be surprisad al innual complaints at lack of room in our School buildings. Messrs. J. M. Wheeler, H. S. Frieze, nd E. W. Morgan, were re-electec Trmtees for the full term of three years. On a recent trip to Jaekson we toppedat the Hibbard House, and cao índorse Messrs Spencer & Günnison ""knowing how to keep a hotel." - They have a large run of custom and are ntitled to it. W Rev. E. O. Haven, D.D., LL.D. tbe new Presideut of the University o: Michigan, has arrived in our city, wiih 'i'family, and ia stopping at the resi deuce of Prof. Winchell.
