The Russian Gunboat Fleet
Paris (Oct. 13) Cor. of the Lomlon Times. The France states that the Russian Admiralty are al present building two hundred gunboats, plated witb iron, on a new mode. They are not to draw more than íour feet six inches oí watr, and may consequently serve in shallow placea. Sueh boats are regarded by the Russian Admiráis as very useful for the defense of Oronstadt, of which the works are surrounded by groups of rocks which render the approach very difficult for ships drawing much water. The Ruasiun governmeut expects that these gunboats may be launohed before the Baltic is frozen ; and as the arsenal at Cronstadt is occupied with other works, orders have been sent to a private establishment in Prussia for two hundred guns capable of throwing shot of one hundred pounds ïveight to arm the boats.
