They went within fifteen miles of Red River, finding the enemy had changod his poeition sinco last advices, and were unable to proeeed furlher. ïheir return was a constant skirmish for over a hundred miles, strong bodies of the eDemy being posted at all crossroads to intercept them. They cut their way through some places, and evaded others by takiug blind ruountaiu passes. Their loss M trilling. Among the prisoners captured is the notorious Handy Lane, who boasts of having killed over one hundred Union citizens with hia own hands. Information has been received that Kirby Smith's force was preparing to attack Little Koek. A coinmunication from the Choctaw Chief, McCurtain, says the Choctaws will not rejoin Cooper, but desire an interview with McNeil, and says the tribo is disposed for poace. Our iidvanco headquarters are at Waldron, fifty-five miles south. They frequently push down towards Washington, constantly annoying Price's left flank.
