In 42 towns the Liberty vote exceeds the Whig. In Tour others. it is just cqual. In eight towns Ihe Liberty vote exceeds the Democratie, not only for governor, but forrnemberofCongress. And in fice of these towns, the Liberty party is in advance of the others - the first pariy. - Freedom is creeping up in the granito State. In fifly towns her's is now the first, orthe second party! GuiltyCanaan is retrieving ifs character. Il will be recollected that tliis is the far-famed town, in which the abolition schooi-house was assailed and hauled into a swamp! But look atits recent vote for governor. Democral 1)0, Whig 91, Liberty 106! She and her 6chool-houses are certainly out of the sicamp, frotn this time forward. Let her schoohnaslcrs be "abroad," lili they make every town a Canaan - a "promised land" lor light and freedom - Magna est veritas, cl frci-alebit. Soo:i may we shoul - Et prevalebat! Nor is the good leaven cxcluded from the legislature. The N. II. Patriot, and Hill's Patriot, both concede seven representatives to the aboliMonists, indicating ihat five of these are from the Democratie party, and two from the Whig. To the latter, it is said, that the venerable Col Pïerce, of Doer, should be added. lic is unquestionably a staunch abolitionibt. Eiglit 'abolition' represent at iy eg already! And Canaan will probablv add another, ís she did not elect the first dny. This is 1ite cheering. Qucrv. If no abolitlonists lïave come from the Democratie party, where did the Liberty folks ín N. II. get tlte.se fier for epresentatives? Eclioauswers - where?
