A oomparison ot the census of 1860 and 1863 shows that of the number of slaves in the entire State in 1860, only 3,803 have been lost since then above natural propagation and other causes. Of horses, in that portion of the State under our control, we have lost 25,201. In 1860, the number of eattle returned for taxatiou in the entire State was 1, 021,132, or ninety-seven for ever one bundred white persons. ín 3 863. the number of eattle within the territory free from the oecupation and incursión oí the public enemy, was 507,152, to wlnch add S peí cent., the usual differunce between the actual and taxable nuuibera, and we have 547,724 eattle within our control in the last mentioued year, whieh is one huudred and five head of c-.ittle to every one hundred white inhabitants. The returns show au iucrease of 72,336 sheep, and a loss of 156,970 hogs in the couuties and oorporations under our control.
