Tha Philadelphia Age says the old house at the southeast corner of Second etreet and Norria alley bas been purchased by a citizen of Pbiladelphia and will sbortly be torn down to make room for buildings moro in ñccordance with the present age. This old honee derives itachief interest frorn itn having been the runidence of Willuim Penn, the founder of Philadelphia. - The house was built in the origin oí tbe city for Samuel Carpenter. It was oocupied as the city residence of William Penn and ftrmily, while in Philadelphia, in his second visit in 1700, nnd in this house was born bis son John Penn, " thj American." the only one of tbö raoe ever born in Philadelphin. The house is now almost 175 years old, nd is the last relio of the Penn family. The demolition of thist interesting relio of William Penn doe not spesk well or thu citizens of Philadelpbin. Surely there ought to be respect and veneration enough to perpetúate this memento of the founder of the great State which bears bis name. tts detruction would certainly be discreditabla to the citizens of Pbiladelphia.
