Deceitful smiles and honeyed words, The enviou. only use ; The true, sincere, conflding frieud Will all such frauds reluse. Dissiminlation is the fiend, Which mars our social joys ; 8hut.s out the brightest sun of life, All confidence destroys. It makes no peaceful happy homes, SubseiTes no useful ends : Turns day to n(ht and smiles to frowns, Hakes eueniies, not friends All noble, honest niindid men, Society aniong, Detest the hypocritic nod, And every act that's wrong. True friendship, is the qolden chaia Which links our social joys ; With worthy honest, real friends, l've past most happy hours. And nop, farewell, fraternal band, To scènes to me most dear Fond memory, stül, will oft recall The sympathetic tear. The many senes of festive joys, My tongue can never teil ; With friends so kind, so good, so true, Tis pleasant, long to dweil. I hope you'll think, when l'm away, Far off in olher lands ; The vows we've made at friendship's shrine Confirmed by shaking hands. To all my social, constant friends. Long life and joy to you ; I hoie we part to meet again, But, still I say adieu.
