The time will shorlly nrrive when it will become the duty of the LiberJy party to choose suitable canJidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor of this State, io be supported at the November election. _ These are to be selecfed by a general State Convention, to be held at some time and place to be designated by the Central Committee, and lo be composed of delegates from every Counly. The usual proportion of delegates is twice the number of Representatives in the Logislature. We have had no opportunity of conferring with the Central Committee, Jbut an expression of opinión from us on some points may not be inappropriateor unreasonable. The State Convention shoulci beimmediately before or after harvest. Attendance of farmers during the harvest weeks, in many cases, would be difficult or impossible. The efficiency and influence of the Convention will depend materially on the number of the counties represented, and the fullness of the delegations. To make these as large as possible, we would propose that County Liberty Conventions be held simultaleneously throughout the State on ihe Folrth op July, for the nomination of Senators and Representatives, and of delegates to the State Convemtion. By adopting this course, only one meeting n each county will be nocessary, and all that is requisite to be done, can be done at once and in good season, while the meetings will be more fully attended than they would be on any other day. The only material objection that we anticípate lo this suggeslion is, that the Fourth of July has always been kept s b national festival, and to appropriate it to party uses would be to desecrate the day. But we are unable to see how it could be better used than for working out the deliverance of our beloved country from its greatcst evil. Besides, it has been ofien used for party meetings, nor do we see any weighty objection against thepractice. It was only last ye ar that the VVhigs held their State Convention on that day at Marshall, while thousands of Democrats at the same moment were assembled in convention at Ann Arbor, and were addressed by Gen. Cass and others. Should this suggestion meet the minds of the different County Committees, they will see the necessity of giving immediate nolice of the meeting in their respective counties.
