U. S. 10-40 Bonds These Bonda ure Issued under the act of Congress of March 8th, 1864, which 'provides that all Bonds issued under this Act shall be EXEMPT FROM TAX ATI0NT by or undei any state or municipal authority. Subscriptions to these Bonds are received in United State notes or notes of National Banks. They are TO BE REDKEMED IN COIN, at the pleasure of the Government,, at any period not Iets than ten nor more hanforty years from tht-lr date, and until thoir reemption K1VE l'ER CENT. INTEREST WILI. BE PA1D N COIN, on Bonds of not over one hundred dollars annufilly and on all other Bonds imi-annually. The nterest is payable on the flrst days of March and September in ( ach year. Subscribers will re;eive either Registereil or Coupon Bonds, as they raay prefer. Registered Bonds are lecotded un the booksol the [T. S. Treasurer, and can he transTerred only on the owner's erder. Coupon Bonds are pnyablc to bearer, and are more convenient for conruercial usage". Subscribers to thisloan will have the option of having their Bonds draw inte rest from Xfarch llt, by pay ing the accrued interest in coin - (or in United States notes, or the notes of National Banks, adding fifty per cent. for premium,) or receive them drawing interest from the date of subscription and deposit. As these Bonds are Exempl from Municipal or Slate Tnxalion, their value is increased from one to threo per cent. perannum according to the rate of tax levies in various parts of ths country. At the present rate of premium on gold they pay Over Elght Per Cent Interest in ourrency, andare of equal convenience as a permanent or teniporary investmL'nt . It is believed that no seourities offer so great inducements to lenders as the' various Jescription of U. S Bonds. In all other form? of indebtedness, the (ai th orability of private parties or stock companies or separate communitiea only is pldged for payment, whileforthe debts of the United States the whole property of the country is holden to secure the paymentof both principal and interest in coin. These Bonds m iy be subscribed for in sums from $50 up to any magnitud9, on the same ternas, and are thus made equftlly available to the smalleet lenderand tbe largest capitalist. They can bs converted into money at any moment, and the holder will have the benefit of the nterest. It may be useful to state in thib connection that the total Funded Dcbt of the United States on which interest is payable n gold, on the third day of March, 1864, was, $768,9(15,000 per annum. It will be seen that even the present gold revenues of the government are la gely in excess of the wants of the Treasury for the pavment of gold interest, while the recent increase of the tariff will doubtless rai.ue the annual receipts from customs on the same amoint of importations, to $150,000,000 por annum. Inatructions to the National Binks actlng as loan agents were notissued from the Uuited States Treasury until March28, but in the first three weeks of April the .subscriptions averaged more than TEN MILLIONS A WEEK.
