The Common Cüuncil hrld au adjourned meeting on Monday evening, July lllli. Present all but Alderman Thompson. Tlio following petitions were reeeived : From J. Hang&Urfer, asking a yearly licpuse for his hall, instead of requiring of eaeh person using it a special liceuse. Laid ou the table. From John Burns atid others. fortlie ing of Hiekory street froin Pitcher street east as far as laid out on the plat. Referred to the Aldermen of the 4lh and öth Wards. From P. and J. Donnelly, asking that a nuisance back of Cook's Hotel stables be abaled. Referred to Aldermen Thompson and Oott. From sundry residents of the Third Ward, I asking that a nuisaiico existing on Hiscock roa.l, near Spring street.be abated. Laid on Ihe table. Alderman Gott, from coinmittee for that purpose, reportad an ordinauce relativo to mimbering dweüings, stores. &c, which was adopted, Lee Ordiii&nce iu another column. Committee reponed adversely to opening au alley in Block 3, Rane 3 North, iroin Catherine street to the next street North. Sundry bilis for Street Wos-k, Marshal's salary, &c, were allowed, amounting to 582,74 Resolutions were adopted : Instrueting Street Commissioner to submit his books to the chairman of the Finauce Oommittee when accounts are presented. Instructing Recorder to post notices of poatponement of the time for hearring petition for the laying out and opening of High street. Also, instrucüng Recorder to notif'y the Supervisor of the 3d, 4th, and 5th Wards to make reports and assessments on unflnished sklewalks. The Bond and oath of office of C. H. Richmond, City Treasurer, was approved. The oath of office of Edward Stiling, Deputy Marshal, was received and ordered placed on file. The Recorder presented the Annual Report of the Controller of the City of Detroit, which was, on motion accepted. jLL" On Thursday evening of last week the horse of Hieam Aenold, Esq., of Scio, tiied his speed on Main street He managed succssfully to dodge the carriages which lined the street, and the pedestrians managed to dodge him. He turned inU' Catherine street. and brought up on Dr. Cuase's brick pile, inj uring the carriage some and himself a little. Mr. Abhold was in at one of our stores writing, heard the commotion caused by the run away, went to the door, looked out, remarked that it had got by his establishment, and then went back to his work, to be informed a little later that his horse had cleared somebody else's establishment.
