A merohant of this city, during tbe present war, made a contract with a meehanic to supply hirn with a quantity of tin cans. Not long after this, the price of tin rose so umch that the contractor must lose money by completing the work at the price agreed upon. However he said nothiug, but went on delivering the cans. Wben the first bill for part of the cans was received, the omployer called upon him aud said : "I unde; stand you are losing monoy on this job." " Yes," replied the contractor, " but I eau stand it; a contract is a contract you know." "How ínueh vvill you lose?" asked the gentleman. " O no matter' was the reply : I don't cornplaiu, and jou ought not to. " " I ineiat on knowing." " Well, since you dosire it, I shall loso so nmcb ou a huudred," naming the aiuount. " Well, s:r," 8aid the noble-hearted man ; " you must not lose tkis ; it would not be right. I shall add the amount to your bill, and as the price of material may still rise, I will advance you the money for the hole of the contract which no doubt you can use to advantage."
