The Democratie State Committee held a meeting in Detroit last week, aDii after a full deliberaron nominated ourfellow-citizen,Hon. Am'iieus Felcii, for the vacancy on the Suprerae Benoh of tho State, created by the recent death of Judge Manning. We have no doubt that the Committee reflected the wishes of the Detnocracy of the State, and that the choice would have been the sr.me had a convention been callud and held. Gov. Feixh is well-knówn to the eutire body of the people of Michigan. - He bas served thern in the Legisluture, as Judge, as Governor, and in the Senate of the United States, and has always discharged the duties devolved upon him, wrth courtesy, promptness, faithfulness, and with the etrictest in tegrity. He made a careful, correct, and upright Judge; an efficiënt and able Executive ; and a Senator of whom the State had reason to feel proud. In his education, business habits, modes of thought, investigaron, and expression, in his unsullied private and public life, his high sense of honor, and his antagonism to :ill kinds oí corruption, whether in individuals or politicians, he has qualifications whioh peculiarly fit him for a place on the Supremo Beuch oí the State. The nomination was unsought, and is aecepted, if accopted, against his personal wishes, facts aflording additional reasons why heehouldbe elocted. We hope tbat he tniiy be. J53T" The Democratie State Coin mittee bas nouiinated Hon. Byron G. Stout for Regent, to fill the vaoancy Occasioned ty the death of Regent Sweetsku. A good noniiuation, but then, we do not belicve the vacancy ean be filled by the people, the Conatitution author iz-ing n sueh wuy of filliDg it, but direotly providing fo-r an appointuient by the Oovenior. Tho Governor Iiesitatcs to appoiut for fear of losing a vote or , two for United States Senator
