A Naslmlle correspondent of the N. Y. Times, Mr. Benjamin (J. Traman, gaye t is believed in official eircles in Tennesse, that Gen. Gillem haa been the riotiin of jealousy on the part of other general officers at Knoxville. Aocording to informaiion received by Gen. Thomas and Governor Johnson, it appears that Gillem, after ascertaining beyond a doubt that ho was bcing pressed by threo Brig'ido3, oommonced falling bsck with his littlo command of thrce regiments, and at the same time called upou two brigadiers at Knoxville, not ouly for reinforcemontg, but food, for hi Brare m;n, who had been for tliree days without rations of Lny kind, except fresh meat. He kept fullinfj back in good order, all the while crying for he'p, but no assistance carne to hiin unlif his icuted armv arrived at Strawberrv Plains. Here he was met by threo hundrcd men of the 9th Mich'gan cnvalry, who had loft Knoxville on the morning of the 1 Hh uit., six days after thcy hnd been called for. Mr. Trunian s&yï lie has letters addressed to Gov, Joh'-fCB and Gen. Milligan, and according to all accounts, Gillem'n deportment duriug tl;c dioadful confusión of his fcroops, was graud in the extreme, and it is asserted th&t the disastei1 ifiight have been averted, but for the absence of barmonv mong the offiecr3 about Knoxville. Ooi. Browulow writes-that Gen. Gillom, Degardleij of danger, acted as few general officers couü aet nnder the circuintance, nnd his gallant efforts to stay the rout, he saya, wns unexampled. On the 17th, Gen. AmmeD, Tillson and Gillom seems to have acted in concert, aud drove tho rebela from Strawberry Plains. This letter to the New York Tima is written under Mr. Truman's proper signatmfr, and s he ñames the official sources íroia whence he derivod his information, there is an urgent necessity for a very thorough iuvwtigation of tlie facts.
