5t Louis was divided into one hundred ind ten districts, and a census taker appoiated to eaeh, so as to secure a simul;aneous aud correct enuweration of the nhabitants. The result was roported sq tbe 21st Feb. last: White males, 74,496; white females, 78,630; total whites, 155,126 ; colored malea, 2,937 ; colored females, 3,883 ; total colored, 6,920; not classified, 3,501 ; total popu lation, 165,446 ; in 1860, 160,763- increase 4,673. Oontrary to the generaüy eceived opinioD, the foteign boni popuation is not equal iu nunibers to the American. Ouly about one-fifth of the mildiugs are of wood and these 20,721. ?he census takers being universally rgarded as enrolling officors, it was found o be quite impossible to obtuiü f uil lis's. Chis acoounts for the faot that the fj males, botb, white aud black, outnumber ,he males, when it is woll knowu that iu all the Western cities thu males groatly outnumber the femaleg.
