A Nowbern correspondent, dated tho lltbj sajs somo of the heaviust fighting thero haa been siuoe tho corps commanded ty Gen. Cox reached tho viciuity of Kiuston, occurred on Friday. The rebela had evideutly learued Unit Gen. I Oouch with a portion of the 28d oorps i waa not far off, and would soon joiu Cox, and it urged them to extraordinary desperation. They charged again and again upon our works, niaking 10 or 12 separate charges through the day. Generally they spuut thoir fury upoa tha left, hut soiae of the time they would charge upon the entiro line, vainly bc ping that the momentum of so large a body would break down everything. üur men, however, stood their ground heroieally, as attesf.e 1 by piles of nkiu rebels lying bcforo onr works in various directions. The euemy also fought with val. or worthy of a better cause. It was in vaiu. On Friday night and Saturday morning Oouoh's foroes catne up fiom towards Wümiugton, and effected a juQction with Cox, whiuh g&vo us an udv:intage of oourse, of which the rebels were not slow to become infurmed, so tbey at once began to fall back, abaudoning all further opposiiion this side of tr.e Ñeuse rivcr, and they are now on the north side of the river, with the bridge thut crosses over to Kinstoii partially burned. The much talked of rara Neuse was also partially destroyed. Our forces folluwed thera up vigorously, aud will doubtless propose to cross oer the rif er at oncö by means of a pontouu bridge, or by relay ing new timbers over the old bridge for the cars to pass over. I apprehend that there wlil be no difficuhy now in driving the rebels back from any point where thty aiay see fit to make a stand,
