-The sissippi lïepullican eays that a zealoug republican jiolitïcian approached General Sherman in Ohio the other day, and indulged ín soine remarks refleeting so verely on McClellan, after whieh ho asked Shorman what lie thought ot the late "copperhead candidate for Pres.ident." Tho genoral, says thu EepubHcan, straightened himself up, and, witb warmth, earnestness and einphasis, replied ihat Gen. McOlellan was one of tho ablest and best generáis that commanded during the war ; that he had diseharged his duty faithtully and efficiently until he was removed ; and that he (Sherman) had groat respect for his opinions. The Mayor and most of tho magistrates of Alexaudria, Va., boldly de3lare their dotermination tn adhore to the old State law, aud say that soonar than roeeive the tastiniony of a negro in :heir courU they would resign tbeir i officee.
