Week, we witnesed the trial of the new Steam Fire Engine, " Gen. W. T. Sherman," just received from the inanufactory at Seneci Fall, N. Y. This engine is a beautifuj piece of macliinery, and is so light that it can be easily drawn by hand. It was ready to throw water, and water running through tho hose, in six minutes from the time the flre was kindled and as the fuel is alvvays kept in readiness for firing, no time is lost in respondiug to an alai in. The first trial was through 50 feet of hose, with a l} inch nozzle, when with from 50 to 70 lbs. of steam a stream was thrown 225 feet. Two sets of hoe wero then attached, 15U feet each in leugth, through which streams were thrown a few feet above the turret of the new M. E, Churoh, or over 110 feet high. The engine was then taken to the river, and placed upou the bridge, and played for an hour or two tlirough hose of different lengths, until Main gtreet was crossed, a distance of full 50 rods from the river. And with that length of hose t tbrew over the highest three story store in the block, and without Uring out or getting "tight." We made up our mind that the Gen. Sherman, likeits naniesake, was $ome.
