Covert, living jusl West of this city, was accïdentally ohot through the leg near the knee, by üonald McIntyke, Jr., on Tuesday afternoon last. - We underat&nd that the boys were diaenssing the comparativo worth of swords and guns as weapons of defense, vhen young UcIxtyrb, ín deiBOBstrating hia position, drew hi gun, with whicb he had jast been ehooting chicken, and while eocking it accrdently let the haramer elip from his fingers, discharging the gua and logiug the bali as above Btated. - Boys eau not be loo careful iu halidling üre ■HM. In this coonection we deem it our duty to ey that too many boys in our city are in tha liabit of daily carryiug about pistols with thera, at thiir play, to school, and wherever they go. Tilia practice should be prohibited by parents, and any scholar who takes a pistol to school in violation of the rules should be proiuptly suspended or expelled. l" W liope thtt our citizens will bar in mind the buggestion made in our last Issue, and place a sign conspicuously upon tbeir residences if they have rooms to let or ■wieh to take boarders. The college year haa opeued in but one of its departuients, and yet we hear considerable complaint already. - Toung men coming here strangers, become wearied in tlieir search for homes, and if any thíng can be done to aid them t should be done. The fact ís boarding accommodations re too lituited, and some capitalist might mak a handsome sum by the ereetion of a lrge boardiug house, one which would accoinmodate one hundred students. We hope to seo this done. JL3C At the lsst annual township meeting, the town of Pittsfield voted, under Act No. 86 of tho last session of the Legislature to refund inoneys raised by subscription to pay bonnties. On Thursday of last week a motion for an injunction was argued before Judge Lawkbnce, restraining the Supervisor and Clerk from levying the tax, 0. Hawuks, Esq., appeared for tho petitioner, and took ({round both against the constitutionality of tha law and the regularity of the proceeding under it. L. D. Noubis, Esq., appeared for the respoüdents and denied the jurisdiction of the Court. The decisión of tho Court luw uot yet, been announced. JC37 The first iüstallment of the quinoctial was showered down or rather poured down upou this región on Sunday Uit, at about the hour of noon. The rain was preceeded by a Btrong wind, blowing from all directions, and playing many disrespectful pranka with the wardrobe of ladies who were wending their way home from Ohuroh. The hurricane was succeeded by a genuino "water-fall," and all unfortunnte pedestrians were well wet down for once. Fine feathers made a sorry display. EP A. W. Ames, finding t a little lonesome on tho North side of the squaie eince the removal of the Post Office, has rented the store lately occupied by J. Thompson, on Huron Street, and in a few dtiys the Express, Telograph, and Newa Offices will be removed to new quarters. iy Anothor old land-mark of our city is on tho move. We mean tho South wing of the old GooDEicn house on Fourth Street, East of the square. It is to find rest adjoining the M. E. Church, on Ann Street - The vacated lot is to receive a fine brick block - next year, we hope. y Real estáte in our city is moving freely. Lnrgo number of lots are being bought for inimediate ocoupition, and other largo number on speculatiou. Tho fact is we are receiving accessions to our population faster than the new corners can get accom ino,' da(ioii8. This ia a good sign.
