Death Of Worcester, The American Lexicographer
Joseph E. Worcester, LL. D., author ot Worcester s Dictionary died at his residenco in Cambridge on Friday last, aged eighty-one years. Mr Worcester was a native of Bedford, N. H , and the descendant of an old and influential family wliich had lived at IIollis, N H., siuce 1750. His great grand father was the Rev. Francis Worcester, who settled there in 1750 His early eduoation was obtained cbifley at Hollis, to which his parents returncel soon after his birth, aud at Pbillips Aeadoiny, Andover, Mass. He graduated at Yale in 1811, and for suveral years after taught school at Salem. He removed to Cambridge in 1819. He visited Ëurnpe in 1830 and 1831. He reueived the degree of IL. D. from Hrown University, and from Dartmnuth College ; was a Fellow of the American Aoademy oí Science, a corresponding meinbor of tho Royul Geographioal Society of LondoD, utl a membcï o other Jvrned bodiea.
