Verdict of six cents I ge, carrying with it the same amount of costs. Eiward S. Jewett t. Aha Freer - Another slander uit, with verdict of no cause of action. Not a profitable investment. Lyman Turner c. James Lawrena - Action íor labor, etc. Verdict, for Plaintifi of $38 75, not enough to pay costs " by a long shot." John Lovtry of. Ely Coek - To recover for a horae sold. Verdict for Plaintiff of $35.46, and not much made at that. ïeeterday, Perry and Nancy Preston vJohn and Polly Sunburg - aiiother slander suit, was on trial. Sentences have not yet been passed. JC2L The first lecture of the course tefore the Students' Lectu e] Association. was ■delivered in the M. E. Church, on Saturday evening last, by Prof. Evans. Despite the inclemency of the weather thechuroh was fllled to its utmost capacity. The subject was "Pomptii ." and it was so handled as to gain and retain the interest of the large audience for a longer time than is usually occupied by an evening's lecture. The lecture was illustrated by charta or diagiams, giving correct representations of some of ihe most notable exhumed buildings of the bnried city, among tliem the one which Bulwer describes in his popular novel as the palace of Glaucus. - The second leclure of the course will be delivered at the same place, to-niorrow-etreuing, at 7% o'clock, by Dr. John Todd, luLhor of " Th Students' Manual," and other well known Iwoks. The subject announced is, "Life as seen at its Morning and Evening," nd we may predict a fine treat. íOu The house ot Thomas F. Hill, Biq , on Fourth Street, corner of Liberty, was ntered on Saturday niglit last, by some niidnight psowlers, and raoney and vaiuables to a lurge amoiint carried off. Other Biembers of the faiuily detected an unpleasant taste in the Catsup and did not eat freely of it. House wives can not be too cautious in using copper kettles for cooking purposes, Better ignore them altogether, and use porcelain ware.
