Nothing is more common than to hear pcople talk of what tbey pay newspapers for adVertising, &c, as somuchgiven in charity. Newspapers, by euhancing the value of property ia their oeighborhood, and giving the localities in wbich they are publisbed a reputation abroad, benefit all such, particularly if they are merc'unnts or real estáte owners, thrice the amount yearly of the meager sum they pay for their support. Besidee, every pnblic-spirited citizen bas a Uudable pride of having a paper of which ho is not ashamed, eveD though he should piek t up in New York or Washington. A good-looking. thriving sheet helps to sell proporty, givea character to the locality, and in all respecta is a deniraMe public oonvenience. If, from any cause, the matter in the local or editorial columns should not be quite up to your standard, do not cast it aaide and pronounce it of no account unti! you are satisfied that there bas been no more labor bestowed upon it tLan is paid for. If you want a good readable sbeet it must be supported. And it must not be supported in a spirit of charitjr, either, but because you feel a necessity to support it. The local press is the " power tbat moves the people."-
