In lbo first qur. ter of 18(34, the average duily adviince was 4 feet 6 3 4 inehes ; in the second uartei-,5 feot 2 inobee, in tho third C]UrtPr, 6 fuet 4 inches; in the fourth quarter, G feet 7 inches; in tho first quarter of 18(55, 7 feet, and in the seoond quarter 6 feet 10"l-'2 inches. lu 1863 the average daily advauce at the Froncu sido wíis 3 feet 10 1-2 inches ; in t [ie firat quarter of 1864,4 feet 1-2 inch ,- in the second quarter, 3 feet 9 inehes; in tho third quarter, 4 feet 5 inehes ; in the fourth quarter, 4 feet 9 inches; in tho first qu;irter of 1865,5 feet 6 inehes; and in the secoud quarter, 7 feet 1 inch. At the close of Juuë a total distanoo of 16,912 foet had been pieroed, and by January, 1870, the whole tnnnel is expooted - if no unforeseen difficulties arise - to be oarried out.
