Thia piaster is well known from its general use and itg hesliug proportie. - Tt is merel; a kind of varnished silk, and its manufacture is very easy. Bruiso a suffiüient quantity of isiriglass, and let soak in a littlo warm water föur and twi-uty liours ; exposé it to heut over the fire till the greatcrpart of the water is dissipated, aud supply its place by proof spirits of wino, wbieh will combine with the iuglass. Litiuiu the whole through a piece of open Hoen, takiüg care that tho consistories of the misture shall be snch that, when cool, it uiay fonn a trembliog jc!ly. Estend the piece of blank silk, of which you propose making your piaster on a wooden frame, and fix it in that positiou by raeans of tacks or pack thread. Then apply the isiuglas3 (after it has been rendered liquid by a gentle heat) to the silk with a brusli of fiue hair (budger3J is the best.) As soon as this first coatiug is dried, which will not be long, apply a r-acoud ; and afterward, if you vvish tho artielo to be rery superior, a third. Whcn tho whole is dry, cover it with two or t'uree eoatings of the balsana of Peru. Thia is the genuino court piaster. It ia pliable, and uever brsaks, which is far irom oeiug tne caso witü reany 01 the spurious articles which aro sold under that name. Indeed this commodity Í3 very frequently adulterctod. A kind of piaster, with a very thick and brittle covering, is often sokl for it. The manufacturera of this, instoad of isDgla3, use common glue, which is much chesper ; and cover the vhole with spirit varnisb, instead of balsam of Peru. This plaater cracks, and has none of the bal samio 6uell by which the gcnuiuc court plaÊter is distiaguiahed. 'Another iaethod of detecting tha adulteratioa is to moÍ3teu it withyour tonguo on the sidu opposita to that which is varnishod ; and if the piaster be genuiue, it will adhoro exceedingly well. Tho adulteratsd )laster is too hard for this ; it will not stick unless you moisteü it on the varnish side. - TJie Painter, üihhr, and Varnislir'i Companion.
