The following linea of Thomas Moore have twen ropublinhul iu tho New York üvening Mail. They aro omiltcd froni mo9t of the Atnericitii editions of hN poen. There is no doubt of their antheuticity, aad they are worthy of republicatiou. The scene was more beautiful far to my eye Than if clay in lts pridc had arrayed it, The land brceze blew mild, and the azurearchcd sky Looked pure as the spirit that made It. Tlie ïnurmur rose soft as I silently gazed On tlie shadowy waves' playful motion, From tbc dim distant isle, till the beacon Ught blazed Like a star in the midst of the ocean. No longcr the joy of the sailor-boy's breast Was heard in hi.s wildly breathed nuiiibers ; The sua-blrd had flown to her wave girdled nest, Tlie lisliennan sunk to his slumbers. I sighed as I looked frotn the hill's gcntle slope, All liushed was tho billows' commotion ; And I thougrlit that the beacon looked lovuly as Hope, That star of lile's tremulous ocean. The time Is long past and the scene Is afar ; Vut, wlien my head rests on its pillow, Will niemory sometimes rekindle the star That blazed on the breast billow. In üfe's closing liour, when the trembling soul flies, And Death stills tin: hearfslast emotion, Oh then may the seraph of Mercy arise Like a star ou eternity's oceau.
