Whitehall, Mieh., Fel). 27. The caso of Georgo Vanderpool was given to the jury at eleven a. va', on Friday, the 25th inst. At 4:45 p. rn., the court was notifled that the jury were ready to give io tliair verdict. The prisoner was brought in and tha jury sutnmoned. On being asked to give in their verdict, Mr. McKay, foreman of the jury, rose and said : ''We fiud George Vanderpool guilty of murder in tho first degree." There being a question rnised in regard to somo point of law the oourt ad journed until ten a. in. Saturday the 26 th iust. At ten o'elock a. m., Saturday, the 26th, the court convencd. ïhe prisoner was brought in, pale and agitated. - lío was fisked if ho had nny reason to offer why sonteoce should not be paysed. He rose, and in a speech of ten uiiuutes deolared his itinocenco in a forcible manoer, calling upon God as his witneas. Vanderpool waa then ordered to stand up to reccive liis sentenoe. He was theu eeutenced to solitary eoofinenient for life.
