He inteud3 to fit out a eteam propeller of 150 tons, und a topsail scbuoutr of 125 tons. His rou'e, as now projected, vi!l bö iuto Joncs:s Sound, íiud tbeuce, ís sea and land may pcrrait, up toward the pole. After guttiug tho vcssels as far as practicable, bc proposes to secure tbem in httrbor and ïuako the rest of the distunce by tncaus of tlie Esquimaux dogs and sledges. The object of the voyngo is of a three fold charnoter : íirst, for a geogrnphical discovcry ; seoond, for the idvaucement of tho iuteresls ofscience; tuid third, for command. If lio cannot get the mouey to do this he will try to have a govermneut vessel dttailed to cari'y him as far as Hartstcno Bay, lat. 78 ilcr. 17 win. north, imd to leave him lo make his headciuat tera thero. He hopos by sueh iüd to "acoomplish the Jetermhuition of liis soul," whicb is "to placa his foot on the northern extremity of the axis of tho globe."
