The ship Gladiatcur, from Glasgow, whioh arrived at New York ou the 7tb, has bad a hard time of it botween galos and fields of floating ice. She was eauglit on the 5th of February in a terrific southwest gale atid lost her foresail, mainsail, foretop galhiut ail, main topinast, stay Mail, three jibs, and a crossjack from the yards. On the 17th she ran into a larga field of ice with numerous small bergs. The small bergs closed lip around hor, and smaller masses of ice crashed her fiull. Further progres eeemed iuipossible and thu ahip was headed to the southeast. After bours spent in this direotion she had cleared the ice. Continuing on the saine oourse BÏie paf.icd ihrough another field of heavy broten raasses with bergs in it forty fi-et liigh. She forced her way slowly throu;rh the bergs, go Dear her that her martilléalo was carried away. Once through this field 6he experienced na furlher trouble.
