I ani tired of hearing wonien talking about " rights " and ucorning " privieges," and hen getiing iuto astreet car to lookdaggcrs at every man wbo doserrt epring up in a jiffy to give thcm his lloe. I want thcm to look into Webster and sea whether " rights" and "privileges " come under the same head and nean ons and the same thjng. I am ineílably and iusufferably tired f seeing any and every woman's dress encribed in the newspapcrs. 1 im tired of seeing tnen give dioners 'or tbc purpose of making speeches ; and eeing woiiicfl go to chuich for the sake f dressing. And of seeicg peopieget married just or the sake of getting o divoroe. I am tired of readiug advertieements 'or " the comforts of a home," when it b useless to wish for such thiügs, and mposeible to have them, unless one reolves to set at defiance all rules of jaodro eocial and fashjonable life ia this ountry. I am tired of the lack of respect bown for literature as a profeMÍOD, wliich causes every man who bas failed n evcrything elae to be sure that he cun suceed as an editor or an author. And of the lack of personal dignity wliicb causes every womaa wbo is afraid of a litlle hard work, to take so fondly with the idea that sho can inake a fortuno by exhibiting herself, personally, under the ga lights of a public platform, and gabbliog over nouseuse whicb she calis "a lecture ;" for the hearing of wliich divers persons, of equal shallowne(?s, are willing to pay fifty cents ahcad; when, oh the contraiy, they sbould nol be wilüng to listen to euch a rigmaroie of uucieaning sentences, even if tbey were paid five dollars individually lor so doing. I am tired of hearing Americana talk so glibly about National Art, when they have r.ot, as yet, got such a thing - unIcss it be tho art of political and financial ti ickery - and nevery will have, as long as they set up and worship in all their high places that double-faced god upon whose forehcad is written Mammon, wbile his lefl ferchead bears the word
