Congres having declined to adopt acy of the new plaiM sagiested, tho census wil bo ttiken on the sume basis as tor the last' tweaty years. The act of 1850 próvidos that tho census shall bo taken by the United States marshuls of the respective distrie's, with the aid of snel) assistants a shall be required. ïbe census districls (f eaoh State are dividtd ro as to be composed of not lew than 2Ü.0CO persons. The assitant8 are paid as follows : Two ceuts for evcry naiuc takeo, ten cents for evcry farm, filteen cents for evory productivo establishment ofiodustry, two ceuts for every deceased person, aud two per cent. of tbc gross amount for nanies enumeratcd, for social stalistics, and ten cents per inile for travel. The enumeration must bo coropleted and the retorna all sent in to tho 8ecietary of tho Interior by the lst of November next. ïho mperintendent of the census is Francia A. Walker, lato of the Bureau of Statistics and Aftistant Special Commiawoner of llevenue.
