In a late mimner of this paper we noticon i an nrlicle, dalen1 at Ann Aibor, ond signed "A Wolverine,1' purporiing to be nn oxposure ol . a system of frauds nnd decepties, of a fla grant characier perpetraled by eome legal praetioners of this place i;pon New York Mercliants, who have forvvarded thiir de mands to this village for co!lecti n bv law. - i We cannot but regard the general tenor of . the nrticle, 8s it will be apprnhended by the cursory reader, as injurinus to tlie reputation of our villnge, ajnd to the character and credit of our business men. The hnndred ihnusand readers of the Tribune wül infer iron; the article that theie ia a considerubleaad knflbentid class of onr citizen-1, who get eolendid livjngt by these robberies and frauds praciised upon New York merchants; and the capiialists of that city will become tuspi ious of our jnerchants and business men. Thot iniquities of the kind referred o in the Tribune may have been occasionally practised upon New York capitalists may be true here as in other places, allhough we know of no e'ich instances: but we believe that the transactions of our business men, bolh lawyers nnd merchants, witli eastern capitaliste, hnve Icen and are as honorable and uprightas in any other place in the West. Any imprpssion that may h any way be conveyed to the contrnry we conceive to be opposed to the t rut h and to be an unjust aspersion upon our busine?s men, and injurioui to the character and reputation of our village.ff?= The New York Evening Post (Loco) intimntes, n no very indistinct terms, that Mr. Polk bought up enough of his partizans in Congress lo decide the Texas question. The Post says that "of the sixteen northern members in the House who voted for Annexation, thirteen have since received office from the President, and three are yet to be provided for." Ought members of Congress to be eligible to Executive appointments? Det. Express. ü? The peoplc of Virginia are ogitating the subject of calling a Convention to amend the State Constitution.
