The fact was noixed abrüad ; wlien suddcnly the missing head turned up at Biarritz, in the possesion of oDe M. Armez, an ex-deputy, whü presentad it to the Euiperor, iuclused in an elegaiK box eovered and lined with velvet. This very head which once so proudly wore a cardinal's soarlet hst, and which inclosed thu wonderful braiu, whioh had ruled over both the King and tbe Regent of France, tyrannized over the Queen, banUhed the Queen-mother, and which intigated a long series of bloody wars and ruthlessly persecuted tbe Protestants of France - this very head rulled aaide unbacded when, in 1793, the Jaoobing degecrated thearis'ocratio tombs of the Churoh of tbe Sorbonne. But the quiok eye of a tradesman who was upon tbe outskirts of the c.rowd at lnst spied it out in the corner uto which it had been rolled. He took it up, and by certain sians reoognizing it - wliich was not difficult, io view of the embaliniog prncoiis to which it had been ubjected - he split it in two purts the face being all that he oared for, and kopt it ns a ouriosity for inany yeare, when he either sold or presented it to Armez. And 224 years after Riohelittu's death, the face was found to be NMuiütliing of the color of Aciizou wind The point of the nose had been slightly flitteuud by preasure, and the half open mouth ahowed two rowa of well preserved aud white teeth. The nioustaclie Aiid itnperial were soanty ; but the historia proGle was in alwost perfeot pres orvatiou. Tbe Emperor had this markahli: liead - or rather, thia able half of ahead- seut to keep compaiiy with the triink to which it rightfully boloneJ, nd the remiiina were roDlerrsd witli great splendor.
